DIY Body Scrub: Coffee Cleanse for Cellulite and Smoother Skin

DIY

Exfoliating your skin helps with skin cell turnover, which helps keep your skin young and smooth looking. While you should not exfoliate everyday, exfoliating 1 - 2 times a week helps rejuvenate your skin and keep it young.

But what are the best exfoliators? So many products on the market are filled with chemicals. Also what do you do with the packaging once you are done with it?

Here is one of my favorite recipes that is 100% natural and can use products you already have in your kitchen.

Coffee Caffeine Cleanser:

Many expensive creams are now adding caffeine. There have been scientific studies that caffeine may reduce cellulite. There was a study conducted in 2015 using 15 participants that found that after 12 weeks of using a cream with caffeine (as well as other ingredients), the participants noticed a significant decrease in cellulite. So… ya know, it’s worth a try!

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup Ground coffee beans: You can cook them and use them for your coffee first, then take the left over ground beans. I also like to try some freshly ground. Both options work.

  • 1/4 cup Olive Oil: The olive oil helps moisturize as the coffee beans scrape away dead skin. Pour the olive oil until it just covers the coffee.

  • 1/4 cup Almond Oil: Almond oil is packed with skin benefits - Vitamin E, Vitamin A, Omega-3 Fatty Acids, retinol, Vitamin K and zinc all are found in Almond oil.

Green Coffee Caffeine Cleanser:

You can also make the above recipe with green coffee beans for an extra burst of antioxidants. Green coffee beans are unroasted, raw coffee beans that green coffee contain chlorogenic acid, a powerful antioxidant, which breaks down once coffee beans are roasted.

All of the above ingredients can be easily purchased in plastic free (minus the lid containers. Olive oil, and roasted coffee beans can often be purchased in bulk and put into your refillable containers at local CO-OPs. I have yet to see that with Almond Oil, but I have always easily found it in glass containers.

Green coffee beans are a bit harder to find at the store. A quick google search does show many online options. I will keep all of you updated on the packaging and which seem to be the most eco-friendly.
