Get Amazon to Reduce Plastic Packaging.

Feminine looking hands holding a small jar of pink eye cream on a pink background

We know there are many reasons to not use Amazon. We know how they treat their employees, the fast that Jeff Bezos is almost a trillionaire. Yes, a fucking trillionaire! Nevertheless, we are imperfect humans and to be realistic, we are all still shopping at Amazon. If you are the exception - congrats!

But most of us still are, so we can at least commit to making shopping there a little less bad. One major issue I am sure we all have experienced is the amount of plastic in our boxes. You can order a t-shirt and one of those air-filled plastic bubbled will be in it. Seriously, why?!

So here is what you can do:

  • Contact customer service which you can easily do in chat and say you want to make sure all packaging on your orders is plastic free (or as plastic free as possible)

  • Unfortunately, that is not enough. Each time you order in the section for special notes about this order, or note to seller you can copy and paste this. (this works for any item you buy from. anywhere).

When packing this can you please use no plastic or any extra packaging. Thank you!

  • If there is no area to leave special instructions for the seller, contact Amazon about your order which you can do easily in chat.

  • Reviews! If there is an indie small brand selling on Amazon, even if they add a ton of plastic, please don’t give them low stars or a bad review. They are trying to make it, and achieve their dreams like the rest of us, but you can still include a comment about packaging in the review. Give them 5 stars (unless you have other reasons for not doing so), write a kind review, and then add a note like this: “While I was very happy with xxx item, next time please don’t add unneeded excess plastic packaging. Thank you!”

  • Get on social media. Snap a photo of the packaging, post, tag Amazon, and ask them to stop using plastic and excess packaging.

  • If you have a store on Amazon, promote that you use plastic free, eco-friendly packaging.
